BARN CONVERSION
One of my architectural passions, is the conversion and refurbishment of old buildings. Which is why when the opportunity arose to be involved in the conversion of an old agricultural barn, I was a clear choice to head up the design. Due to the future occupants of the converted barn not needing an entire second floor, this allowed for the installation of a large mezzanine level. This allowed for great south facing views over the neighbouring fields, as well as creating a large double height space for the entertaining spaces on the ground floor below. The south facing glazing allows for both great views as well as huge solar gain, allowing the barn to stay warm all year round. A feature that both myself and the client felt should stay within the finished design is the large concrete structural beams. As this would draw back to its original use, rather than straying away from it.
